This particular home purchase was a journey in so many ways. I sought the real estate services of Mary Ellen because of their church service reputation she and Jim developed. Mary Ellen coached, mentored, and encouraged my interest when they learned that I was not ready but wanted to begin the journey. When I called Mary Ellen and told her that the work on my credit score had been productive and that I received my VA eligibility, she offered to start researching the markets and asked me to send any ideas of the type of property that interest me. When I look back over the experience, it is very clear that Mary Ellen was managing this delicate process carefully from the very beginning. She was managing expectations, emotions, and the information she learned in a methodical manner but she did all of this in such a sweet, caring yet extremely professional way. No information Mary Ellen learned was wasted. For example, Mary Ellen heard me discuss my elderly mother's aging health conditions. Mary Ellen would say during a home visit, And you could support your mother, if it comes to that, in this downstairs bedroom, so there are no stairs for her to climb. Mary Ellen learned things about the seller that she used in a stellar and strategic fashion as well. Mary Ellen and Jim prepared me for every aspect of the journey. They did not show favoritism just value, the value of a neighborhood, the value of a structure, the value of the age of the roof, the HAVC system, proximity to our school, and other resources. Mary Ellen also conducted the symphony of other services such as mortgage company, inspection, closing experience, and especially her expert negotiating skills. She took my situation and designed a playbook. and she even planned for alternatives. My trust in her and her services allowed me to keep her close to all interactions. At the journey's end, I was exhausted. What I bought was a home; what I gained was empowerment through homeownership and trusted friends.
